Abstract

The article discusses how several schools use achievement data to establish goals to improve student performance. The Data Wise improvement process was used by teachers from the Mason Elementary School in Boston, Massachusetts, who analyzed data from a state assessment, found an area of student underperformance, sought to understand the problem, and developed a collective solution. The teachers' collaborative approach to data use resulted in organizational learning, improved internal accountability, and room for professional risk. How research supports collaboration is discussed.
