Abstract
- The article explores parental and community responses to Chinese American students' struggle for Chinese language classes at Riverside High School in California. The authors present survey findings on what parents and community members know about home language loss, power, knowledge, and democracy. It suggests the need of taking actions to fight for power and the representation of Chinese Americans in the school administration, which include recruiting teachers with Chinese backgrounds. In addition, school and community involvement play a key role in the students' fight for their rights by making students feel as if they are not alone in fighting for their rights.
