Abstract

The author suggests that when producers need a narrative voice that resonates authority, they hire James Earl Jones or Morgan Freeman. He discusses the narrative voices of the men chosen to play God in film and audio versions of the Bible. Called the voice of God (VOG), the hidden narrator requires vocal characteristics that resonate dignity and power. Until his death in 1985, Alexander Scourby monopolized the role in films, commercials and recordings.
