Abstract

The article focuses on the extracted index terms in recorded diseases in hospital discharge summaries and examines the capability of the vector space model to select a suitable diagnosis. The study used morphological analysis and constructed an original dictionary for the discharge summary analysis of several Japanese hospitals. It presents the Diagnosis Procedure Combination (DPC) codes and analyzes the group of summaries according to the classification of DPCs. It suggests that extraction of suitable terms for each disease and characteristics can be obtained from the calculated vectors. It also adds that characterization of the contents of electronic discharge summaries and deduction of the data can be obtained by text mining.
