Abstract

The article reports on the results of research which was conducted in an effort to determine the relation of streptococci, lactobacilli and the general oral and fecal flora to the progression of dental caries in the Syrian hamster. Researchers found that there was no positive relationship between salivary streptococci or lactobacilli and dental caries in hamsters and that the two bacteria types were a small part of the total oral flora.
