Abstract

The article presents a response by Benjamin S. Bradshaw, David W, Smith and Stephen Blanchard to the analysis of Andrew Noymer to their paper "A Cohort Study of Tuberculosis and Influenza Mortality in the Twentieth Century." According to them, Noymer sees their paper in contrast to his work regarding a change in the sex difference in life expectancy following the 1918-19 influenza pandemic in the U.S. Moreover, they argue that the alteration in tuberculosis death rate that occurred in 1945 support the theory that the rise in tuberculosis mortality in 1918 was promoted by wartime mobilization.
