Abstract

The article discusses a study which examined the precopulatory mating behavior of Lymnaea stagnalis pond snails. The study aimed to demonstrate that such mating behavior is a result of the lateralization of the brain. It showed that the asymmetrical behaviour of pond snails is links to the sinistral or dextral shell coil or chirality of the snail. It also found that such behavior is influenced by a maternal effect locus. Study author also discovered that the lateralized sexual behaviour of pond snails is developed during the early stages of their life.
