Abstract
- Argues that the power gained by Australia's Aboriginal Belyuen songmen over ghosts is attributable to the replication of the melodies, rhythms, words, and the voice of the song-giving ghost. Songmen's receiving of the 'Wangga' songs from ghosts in dreams; Power to conduct the ghost of the recently dead away from human society; Facilitation in the adaptation of new patterns of residency.
