Abstract

This article discusses new animal tracking technology that is helping scientists to examine the secret lives of some of the most elusive animals in the rain forests of Central America. Biologists Martin Wikelski and Roland Kays developed animal tracking technology that consists of permanent radio antennas that are placed around Panama's Barro Colorado Island and allow a continuous monitoring of animals' movements. The study on the island has focused on how agoutis are being killed by ocelots. Agoutis are important because they help palm trees to propagate by burying seeds.
