Abstract

A rigorous technique of monitoring the vertical column density (VCD) of NO<subscript>2</subscript> by using the scattered solar radiation is reported. By analyzing the optical path, the method of collecting the useful scattered solar radiation is achieved. By using this method, the collecting equipment and procedure of solar radiation could be greatly simplified. And through the actual measurement, it is proved that the VCD of NO<subscript>2</subscript> measured by using the scattered solar radiation is very close to that from the direct solar radiation.
