Abstract

The study shows that the Chinese printer industry needs a large transition to move from imitation towards leadership by innovation. International companies have developed a strong footprint while Chinese companies have not yet adopted or developed adequate practices for innovation. The practices at one Chinese company highlight the challenges: implementation of innovation strategies, generation of innovative concepts, project management of product development and management of quality. Additionally, Chinese companies could profit from life-cycle perspectives for their own development. Finally, the policy to encourage endogenous innovation should be adapted to create a more dynamic national innovation system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
