Abstract

The article discusses upgrades being considered to improve the ability of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II to absorb heat from its powerful electronics and systems. U.S. Marine Corps Major General David Heinz is asking contractors to assess the costs of changes to give it a bigger margin over the requirement. The distribution of heat to the remaining fuel while operating in hot conditions is the toughest of the specification. An operational cooling strategy is being looked into aside from potential design changes.
