Abstract

Signs of a decline in U.S. economic and social institutions are both abundant and grave, according to this author, who sees the nation plunging downhill from a peak that went largely unrecognized until it was passed. The disappearance of the traditional family and the emergence of a new feudalism of monopolies and special interest groups are the prime reasons for a declining U.S. society. In addition, Americans increasingly accept mediocrity, and they seek out the thrills of violence and vulgarity that they see played and replayed in all the media, from television to magazines. Political and business managers will have to lead the search for a restoration or a replacement of the lost values that once were embodied in the family and the society at large if there is to be a better future for America.
