CAN WE REACH NATIONAL AND EU TARGETS FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY?

The article examines the progress in renewable energy deployment in Ireland set against the context of short- and medium-term renewable energy targets. It is said that the government paper on energy policy has published the targets for each of the three distinct energy markets, namely the electricity, transport and thermal energy markets. Based on 2008 data, it was concluded that renewable energy contributed just over 4 per cent to Ireland's overall energy demand, despite delivering 12 per cent of electricity requirements.
