Abstract: The article focuses on the relevance and influenced of Alfred Pugsley's work to the practice of structural mechanics and structural engineering. Pugsley was appointed as chair of civil engineering at the University of Bristol in England and chaired a committee for the Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA). The authors concluded that he made contributions to the fundamentals of engineering analysis because he offers new ideas for the improvement of the field.
