Abstract

The article presents updated guidelines on clinical practices for diagnosis and management of infections related to intravascular catheter in the U.S. It states that the updated guidelines replaces the management guidelines that were published in 2001 and intended to be used by health care providers for patients with infections or at risks. The guidelines contain an overview on general management of catheter-related infections, a discussion of epidemiology and pathogenesis, and several charts depicting various types of intravascular device and comments on their usage.
