Abstract

The article reports on the results of a survey of Irish dairy farmers' biosecurity practices and how these findings should support future herd expansion. The survey conducted by Dairy Production Research Centre found that 72% of farmers considered biosecurity significant and 53% claimed that the implementation of biosecurity practices was hindered by lack of information. Furthermore, 90% of the farmers did not test purchased animals for any diseases other than tuberculosis and brucellosis.
