Abstract
- The article presents a study on the synthesis of an oligomeric phosphorous-nitrogen containing intumescent flame retardant (IFR) and its effect on polypropylene (PP). Despite the widespread use of PP, it said that its application in fields requiring high flame retardancy is limited because it is flammable. The intumescent technology has been adopted by the researchers since it is said to be capable of improving flame retardancy in polymers. The study shows that the incorporation of the IFR poly(4,4-diamino diphenyl methane-O-bicycli pentaerythritol phosphate-phosphate) could increase the thermal stability and flame retardancy of PP.
