Abstract

The article presents information on NIMROD, an extended magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) code that has been employed for numerous physics studies of fusion plasma, including both innovative confinement concept (ICC) and tokamak plasmas. The subject of disruption mitigation is being actively investigated on a number of tokamaks worldwide. Several features observed in gas jet mitigation experiments can not be explained without including more detailed physics in the NIMROD simulations.
