Abstract

The article presents a study of how people in positions of power tend to make sense of the world, in the context of crisis management, and how their views typically differ from those of people who occupy less powerful social roles. It focuses on the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. An overview of the research protocol is provided, which involved the analysis of thousands of quotations from a wide variety of individuals in the immediate aftermath of the attacks. It was found that persons in positions of power tended to favor more abstract, positive and certain views.
