Abstract

The article presents a study that investigates the political economy preferences of voters with regard to the environment using a new stated preference survey that shows the first benefit values for national water quality levels in the U.S. It cites that the mean valuation greatly surpasses the median value, as the distribution of valuations is highly not aligned. The study matches the valuations of the survey with the information on the patterns of respondent voting. Moreover, the results show that preferences of registered voters are the same to the preferences of the population at large, however, median voters highly regard the water quality more than nonvoters. It notes that the strongest contrast of voter-weighted preferences is from voters with different candidates.
