Abstract

The article presents findings of a study on the effects of sick leave policy on teacher absenteeism in California and Wisconsin. The researchers found that three sick leave policy variables influence absenteeism among school teachers, while income protection plans result in higher short-term absenteeism. By requiring the teacher to report after every absence reduces short-term absenteeism. The decision of school districts to adopt sick leave policies depend on the costs and benefits of these policies, which are likely to vary widely among schools.
