Abstract

The article presents a study which addressed the role of sclerostin and Wnt/Β-catenin in mediating the response of bone to mechanical unloading. It revealed that mechanical unloading of wildtype mice resulted in a decrease of Wnt/ß-catenin signaling activity coupled with upregulation of SOST gene. Findings suggest that sclerostin is a promising target for preventing disuse osteoporosis.
