Abstract: The article describes the case of a 3-month-old female Icelandic foal with idiopathic narcolepsy. Nacrolepsy was diagnosed using the atropine test wherein atropine sulfate was administered. Radioimmunoassay of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) collected from the cerebellomedullary cistern revealed the presence of hypocretin-1. The pathophysiology and genetic basis of narcolepsy are discussed.
