Abstract

The article looks at differences in political parties and party competition in Japan and Taiwan. The changes are evident following the introduction in those countries of a system of mixed parallel electoral choices at both the national and district levels. The national and local election results illustrate a consolidation of a two party system in both nations. In particular, the study examines and analyzes differences in the speed and the extent of this electoral development in Japan and Taiwan.
