Abstract

The article reports that Toronto, Ontario has passed a law which mandates green rooftops for all new construction developments. It states that a new construction, which has floor space of more than 2,000 square meters, must commit 20% to 60% of its roof to vegetation. It notes that it is applicable to residential, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings. Meanwhile, developers say that the law could add over 175, 000 U.S. dollars to project cost.
