Abstract

The article discusses signs of reluctance on the par of corporations to sponsor athletes and sporting events. In 2009 firms spent $100 million less on sports deals than they did the previous year. Several sponsors discontinued relations with golfer Tiger Woods following news of alleged marital indiscretions, while PepsiCo chose not to continue a promotional arrangement with soccer star David Beckham.
