Abstract

An interview is presented with author Joy Harjo, a native Oklahoman and member of the Muscogee Creek Nation. Asked how writing for young readers affects her other writing, Harjo states that all her writing is from the heart and forms a continuum. She says children love to hear her read her book "The Good Luck Cat" and that over the years she has changed her delivery to respond to their interest. Her most recent book "For a Girl Becoming" is a poem written for a grandchild.
