Abstract

The article discusses the economy in Great Britain. It notes the weakness of the British pound, unemployment, and fears that the next government will be ineffective in fixing these problems. Employment losses at the Ford Motor Company diesel-engine plant in Dagenham are noted. Pawnshops are said to have replaced many stores that once sold household goods, electronic equipment, and jewelry. The population of Great Britain is said to have an attitude of hopelessness and anger regarding the poor economy. Speculation is noted regarding the prospect that Great Britain will become ruled by a minority party.
