Abstract

The article discusses U.S. competition in production of lithium-ion batteries for electric cars. It discusses U.S. government grant money that is supporting lithium-ion research, development, and business start-ups. Revenue forecasts are presented for the global and North American lithium-ion battery markets. As demand for electric cars including the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Volt, and others grow, lithium-ion battery manufacturers are said to be introducing their technology in other relevant markets. The company A123 Systems and its chief executive officer David Vieau are discussed.
