Abstract

Several of the underlying conceptions and the assumptions on which the late nineteenth century world view of science was built--which often underly religious research--are being called into question in the wake of empirical discoveries and theoretical ideas of contemporary science. This paper suggests that the implications of these developments for redefining intellectual postures of science and religion concerning each other and themselves need to be reviewed if the science study of religion is to go forward on carefully considered grounds.
