Abstract

The article reports the results of a study of ten U.S. securities and advertising industry companies and the racial composition of their executive force. The study was sponsored by the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Commission on Human Rights. The article reports the challenges that confronted the authors, from the problem of racial definition, to the difficulty in accessing and verifying the data collected. The data is presented, as are explanations of company representatives as to the lack of minority representation in executive positions and their thoughts on how that might be corrected. Among several other suggestions, the author proposes that government intervention may be an effective means of beginning the integration of minorities into executive positions.
