Abstract

The article presents a comparison between men and women in the field of U.S. industrial sales in the 1970's. Prior to the 1970's a typical U.S. sales force was comprised of men. Developments like the U.S.' Equal Opportunity Employment Act, the women's liberation movement, and the country's growing economic inflation have provided for more women in sales. Researchers studied U.S. male and female sales personnel to determine their assessment of work environment, job satisfaction, self-confidence, and other work-related variables. In terms of job satisfaction women appear to be more satisfied with their pay and work than their male counterparts. Female sales personnel also expressed a greater dissatisfaction in the areas co-workers and supervision.
