Abstract

The article discusses research on the association of type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM1) with three loci haplotypes of the adenosine deaminase (ADA) gene in children. The study involved patients at the Department of Pediatrics of the University of Sassari in Sardinia, Italy. Genotype and disease were found to be associated in the ADA2 locus. Results also show the haplotype protects against DM1 in males and increases susceptibility in females.
