Abstract

Chapter 5 of the book "Divided Over Thaksin: Thailand's Coup and Problematic Transition" is presented. It centers of the drafting of the new constitution of Thailand as a consequence of the coup that ousted Prime Minister Thaksin on September 19, 2006. Within the proposed constitution, the central role of the monarchy in the constitutional process has been emphasized and the executive power has been limited. There were more detailed provisions on human rights and more powers given to agencies focused on protecting people and to courts.
