Abstract
- The authors reflect on the developments in providing human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) testing and counseling in health facilities. They cite the impact of the "Guidance on Provider-Initiated Testing and Counselling in Health Facilities" on HIV diagnosis and treatment programs. They emphasize the need to recommend provider-initiated testing and counseling (PITC) to all individuals and groups affected by the HIV virus. They also mention the need to integrate PITC into medical care and a major challenge for universal access to HIV prevention by 2010.
