Abstract
- The article discusses the so-called avant-garde paintings which were exhibited at the Brussels Fair in Belgium in 1958. The author believes that the system on which the acceptance of avant-garde art is based is an illusion. He cites the contradictory views of a number of experts and apologists of avant-garde art, including those of Thomas B. Hess who considered the choice of paintings a comical scandal and Parker Tyler who described the art as a world of shadow.
