Abstract

The article focuses on Polia Pillin's painting on clay. According to Pillin, the medium she employs to decorate her paintings and other pottery is engobe, a French word which refers to the mixture of clay and water with a consistency that is like a cream. She makes color clays by adding metal oxides to white slip. Much of her works in ceramics include plates, ashtrays and bowls. As of March 1, 1955, her work can be seen at The Willow in New York.
