Abstract

Presents a critical analysis of Robert Hayden's poetry. Application of the principles of the blues and the elegy to the concrete circumstances of Afro-Americans in Hayden's neighborhood, Detroit's Paradise Valley; Experiment with the eight-bar blues stanza and its ABCB ballad rhyme-scheme which Langston Hughes had employed in 'Sylvester's Dying Bed.'
