Abstract

The article explores the experience of Lillian Carter, the mother of U.S. President Jimmy Carter and her family in Manhattan, New York. It is stated that Lillian became a reporter herself for Georgia's Columbus Ledger in which she recorded her impressions on tape, which were then phoned to the paper and put in print. It mentions that Lilian offered a novel account of how the President first declared his intention of seeking the presidency, while she was also free with advice for Jimmy. It adds that the three Carter sons and their wives filled in for the President at some of the 300 functions to which he was invited. It notes that their family attended a morning service at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church.
