Abstract

The article reports that 37 U.S. National Parks are in danger of overcrowding as 279 million visitors are expected to come in 1977. It says that the national parks are home to wilderness areas that offer its visitors the scenery and silence that they could not find in urban areas. However, the growing popularity of the parks had jeopardized its peacefulness to the same kinds of congestions their visitors are trying to escape. Moreover, the growing interest in many for a backpacking has intensified traffic on many hiking trails that leads to serious erosions. It mentions that to alleviate the situation, the National Park Service has restricted automobiles from some park areas, and Rangers have been cracking down on campers who insist on disrespecting the parks' peace.
