Abstract

The article focuses on Protect Kahoolawe Ghana, a protest group in the Hawaiian islet of Kahoolawe which aims to stop the bombing of the U.S. Navy in the island. It mentions that the U.S. Navy considers the island as an ideal target range. It says that Protect Kahoolawe Ghana and other protest groups was able to urge the congressional delegation of the island to sponsor a legislation that would compensate Hawaiians for lands lost after annexation. It states that a bill which would force the U.S. Navy to stop bombing in Kahoolawe was proposed by Senator Daniel Inouye. Meanwhile, Protect Kahoolawe Ghana member Walter Ritte asserts that the U.S. Government shows similar contempt for their land and inalienable rights by bombing and shelling, as it took over the islands in 1898.
