Abstract

The article reports on the announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize committee that the recipients of the 1978 Nobel Peace Prize are Prime Ministers Anwar Sadat of Egypt and Menachem Begin of Israel. It states that the announcement came at a bad time as Benign's government had taken action that threatens a draft peace treaty between Israel and Egypt. It says that the Israeli action was attributed to the visit of U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Harold Saunders to Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Israel in October, wherein Israelis accused Saunders siding with Arab interpretation of the Camp David accords. Meanwhile, it says that the committee evaluated 50 nominees including Polish Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski and Finnish President Urho Kekkonen before Sadat and Begin were chosen.
