Abstract

The article discusses the Georges Pompidou's Presidential visit to the U.S. to break the ice in Franco-American relations and the impact of arms deal between France and Libya, on the relations with U.S. Reportedly, France agreed to sell 50 Mirage supersonic fighter jets to Libya, which according to the U.S., will complicate efforts to avert a new Middle East war by maintaining a balance of arms between Israel and the Arab states. Ironically, both the U.S. and the Great Britain hope to make arms deal of their own with the Libyans.
