Abstract

The article discusses various aspects of mythology based from the views of mythologist Joseph Campbell and explains the need to replace old myths with new ones. It presents one of Campbell's statements which airs that everyone is a creature of myth and the legends and tales are still the main key to the human psyche. It also mentions the mythologist's belief that myths are means of communication between the conscious and unconscious. However, Campbell says that this communication has been broken down in the modern Western world and new myths are needed to replace them. Meanwhile, Campbell defines myth as a symbol that evokes psychological energy. He adds that a person who searches for an ideal could at least start discovering through the myths of antiquity and religion.
