Abstract

The article focuses on a direct call from a White House aide to Israeli Premier Golda Meir asking Jerusalem, Israel to avoid disturbing the peace in Lebanon. It says that the message was also passed to Israel's Washington, D.C. embassy, which was informed that Lebanon needed a month or more to arrest the fedayeen. Meanwhile, White House officials rejected the accusations that the U.S. presidential election had anything to do with the calls for Middle East moderation.
