Abstract

The article discusses the situation of the power resources in the U.S. which experienced a new era of energy shortages. It states that President Richard Nixon has scheduled a public view on the nationwide television to respond to the threat, in which he planned to order government restrictions on sales of gasoline and heating fuels at the wholesale level and to urge limitations on highway speeds and a coast-to-coast blackout of all unnecessary outdoor lighting. Additionally, energy will remain scarce even if the Arabs relax their embargo. It notes the prediction of Nixon's energy chief John A. Love that it will be three to five years at best before world oil production and refinery capacity is increased enough to bring again energy supplies abreast of demand.
