Abstract

The article focuses on Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos who proclaimed martial law and assumed dictatorial powers for 18 months while trying to restore an atmosphere of normalcy to the troubled country. Accordingly, Marcos' policies yielded positive results through tourism and foreign investments including the one billion dollars investments from the U.S. since World War II. However, Marcos was saddled with a host of problems including the opposition of the Liberal Party leader Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., the authority and the powers under martial law, and the Moslem rebellion under the Moro National Liberation Front.
