Abstract
- The article focuses on the impact of the four week war between the Turkish of Ankara and Greek of Athens in the island of Cyprus. It stresses the statements of Peter Stylianakis, a retired civil servant, and Stellios Garanis, head of the Cyprus Employers Federation, depicting the transition of the island and the war. It cites the problem on foods for the refugees and the refusal of the Turkish to open the stocks for the Greeks and hampering the International Red Cross and United Nations to give supplies. It discusses the move of Cyprus President Glafkos Clerides and politician Rauf Denktas and the effort of the British and American for the reconciliation of Athens and Ankara. Moreover, the relevance of the U.S. mistakes on the conflicts between Athens and Ankara is expounded.
