Abstract
- The article looks at the controversies surrounding the proposed construction of Park51 complex near Ground Zero in New York City. The proposed complex will be composed of a mosque and an Islamic community centre. Critics argue that the proposed construction is associated with religious freedom, choices, tolerance, symbolism and sensitivity. They add that Ground Zero is a reminder of what Islamism can do to freedom and the construction of an Islamic complex near it is not compatible.
